In the US at least I recently purchased a T330 with the iDrac 8 express card by mistake. Regarding the vFlash, I'm not entirely sure how useful that would be with today's installer images being 4-5GB in size, unless I could buy a 200GB card and use that, but I'm sure the Dell branded vFlash cards have some sort of branding and/or that the card reader only reads Dell vFlash cards. The people answering the phone didn't know if the card was available for my server nor could they point me in any other direction than "send the sales team an email", so I must admit I'm a little disappointed in Dell. I have sent an email to Dell with an enquiry about pricing for the card and license, but so far haven't heard anything back from them. What is the vFlash card used for and would I need one?

Is the card+license deal a good one and should I risk it? Has anyone ordered such cards and licenses off of eBay before? I worry that the license will need to be verified against $license_verificator_system at Dell and fail verification (which is what eBay buyer protection is for, but still).Ģ. This is turning into a book, so here are my questions:ġ. I have found the 8GB cards on eBay for $40-60, but I can't find any conclusive text indicating what the card is for. It also gives me an SD card slot, in which I can put a Dell vFlash card of 4, 8 or 16GB (possibly 32GB as well), that I have no idea what I would use for. This gives me all I need to remotely administer the server on BIOS level, which is what I want.

Now, I did look on eBay, and found a seller in Taiwan (red flag) that offers an iDRAC8 Enterprise pack consisting of an iDRAC8 add-in card PLUS Enterprise license, for US$195.

I have been told that getting the card from Dell is nigh impossible if not ordered with the server, and that the licenses accompany the card as they are sort of married - one doesn't work without the other, and as such it seems difficult to get a standalone license if I should happen across a standalone card. Hence, the Enterprise license is required.

web based monitoring of the server and no KVM. The card alone doesn't do anything more than the Express license allows, i.e. The card I need seems to have a service tag of X99HC, which fits a number of Dell servers, including the T430. I tried to speak to a sales droid at Dell Norway, but he either wasn't interested in helping me or didn't understand my question, so maybe someone here is able to assist me. I would like to have the KVM capabilities enabled, and to do that it seems I have to buy the add-in card and an Enterprise license.
